1939 Albert Einstein Typed Signed Letter with original postmarked envelope with PSA/DNA & Beckett Letter of Authenticity. Offered for sale is an exceedingly rare 1939 original typed and signed letter by Albert Einstein. Including its original postmarked envelope. The document measures 8.5 X 11 inches, single page, single sided. The letter is typed on Einstein’s personal letterhead, embossed on the top header A. EINSTEIN 112, MERCER STREET, PRINCETON, NEW JERSEY, U. This embossing is also in the upper left corner of the matching addressed envelope. The envelope has a PRINCETON N. Includes a PSA/DNA LOA (letter of authenticity). Also i ncludes a Beckett BAS LOA with an autograph grade of GEM MINT 10. The letter is dated June 10, 1939, with truly remarkable content! In the midst of World War 2, Einstein writes on the’power of resistance’ of his fellow Jewish people. Below is the full letter, transcribed: June 10, 1939 Miss A. Dear Miss Botthof: May I offer my sincere congratulations to you on the splendid work you have undertaken on behalf of the refugees during Dedication Week. The power of resistance which has enabled the Jewish people to survive for thousands of years has been based to a large extent on traditions of mutual helpfulness. General George Smith Patton Jr. [1885 1945] was a senior officer of the United States Army who commanded the U. S Seventh Army in the Mediterranean and European theaters of World War II but is best known for his leadership of the U. Third Army in France and Germany following the Allied invasion of Normandy in June of 1944. Patton began his military career in 1909 and served in the Mexican Revolution Campaign. During World War I he was assigned to establish the AEF Light Tank School and led his unit the newly formed 304th Tank Brigade into battle at the Meuse-Argonne Offensive and was wounded in battle. On December 8, 1945 Patton’s vehicle collided with a American army truck and while his injuries where at first considered minor Patton died on December 21, 1945. At his request he was buried with his fellow soldiers at the American Cemetery in Luxembourg City of Luxembourg. The display is centered around a wonderful color military portrait [8.00 x 11.00 inches] of the general. Below the portrait is the autograph of General Patton signed as follows,”G. Patton Jr” and he added his rank Lt. Gen” in black fountain pen on a album page. The album page measures approximately 4.50 x 3.75 inches and is in fine condition. Mounted below the autograph is a professionally engraved metal bio plaque which is engraved with an actual quote from the general and the plaque reads as follows,”George S. Patton November 11, 1885 – December 21, 1945. General of The United States Army.’A good plan violently executed right now is far better then a perfect plan executed next week”. Mounted on each side of the plaque is a pair of Lieutenant General’s gold stars. The display itself is stunning and has been professionally assembled and double matted as follows. The outer matte is actually a beige linen cloth and it is accented with a army green inner matte. The display has been assembled with a quality heavy-weight wood frame to the dimensions of 26.00 x 16.50 inches. Ernest Hemingway Handwritten Signed Autographed Auto document WWII PSA / DNA. The signature is clean and crisp. Written in black ink and measures roughly two and a half inches long. The document has minor toning, due to age, as seen in photos. This was signed at the Cavalry Club and dated 1944. I believe that this is the Calvary Club in London England. Hemingway started his journey into WWII in early 1944 in London. There is not much information on the club and this is what I could find. The Cavalry and Guards Club is a London gentlemen’s club, at 127 Piccadilly, situated next to the RAF Club. When the Cavalry Club first occupied the site in 1890, it was a proprietary club owned by an officer in the 20th Hussars, but five years later, ownership passed into the hands of its members and it became a members’ club. They raised the funds to build an entirely new clubhouse, which was completed on the site in 1908. The work was carried out by the architect’s firm Mewes and Davies. Edward VIII was known to spend a great deal of time in the Cavalry Club premises in the 1920s and 1930s, when he was Prince of Wales. There are four other signatures on the sheet that are unidentifiable. Overall, the document is in excellent condition. The signature is framed with a black and white photo of Hemingway. The frame is not in good shape and should be replaced. The frame with the matting measures 14 x 18.75. The certificate is not framed as seen in the photos. PSA/DNA is the best-known and most respected third-party authenticator in the industry. Our cost is actual higher and I will be absorbing some of the cost.
