In addition to those two flights, Cernan was also the first man to space-walk all the way around the world, completing an EVA of over 2 hours on Gemini 9A, and his account of that troubled flight is as interesting as the story of his two lunar voyages. “Modern Family” fans will also recall that Cernan is the man who forever ruined the grading curve for Dads everywhere by writing his daughter’s initials in the lunar soil before leaving the moon. This book and its jacket are both in very good condition with the exception of a binding repair that has been done on the page where the PSA sticker is placed just barely visible in the last photo. The Apollo 17 crew consisted of Commander Eugene A. Cernan, Command Module Pilot Ronald E. Evans and Lunar Module Pilot Harrison H. The Apollo 17 mission was the eleventh manned mission in the Apollo space program and was the first to launch at night. The mission launched on December 7, 1972, and landed on December 11, 1972, were astronauts Eugene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt spent 72 hours on the lunar surface. The cover commemorates the Apollo 17 mission and contains an Apollo 17 ink mission cachet and is nicely signed as follows,”Gene Cernan” in black felt pen,”Jack Schmitt” in black felt pen and”Ron Evans” in black felt tip pen. The cover is postmarked Cape Canaveral, FL, Dec 10, 1972, and and is affixed with one U. The cover measures 6.50 x 3.50 inches and is in fine condition. The autographs are authentic and the cover has been authenticated by PSA/DNA and is encapsulated in a plastic holder. Sellers note, Harrison Schmitt is no longer signing autograph requests [actually for a few years now] and with the early passing of Ron Evans and the recent passing of Gene Cernan, Apollo 17 crew signed autographs have became very desirable to obtain for the space collector.
